Stress & Anxiety

Almost one quarter of GP appointments are now related to the psychological issues of stress and anxiety, with a high prevalence of workplace problems. While a certain amount of stress can be motivational,  when it becomes excessive then difficulties can arise.

Deadline Stress

Unrealistic deadlines are a major cause of stress. When we get deadlines in writing we often treat them as if they are set in stone. If the deadlines have been given to you by somebody else and are unrealistic, then you can choose to be assertive and negotiate. If you are unwilling or unable to do this, then the least you can do is negotiate with yourself and reduce the importance in your mind.

Changes to work patterns

This is becoming even more relevant than ever with many of us working from home. What initially may have been viewed as a blessing can quickly turn into a curse. We can miss the support of colleagues, be easily distracted in our surroundings, and feel we are on call 24/7.

Lack of support/autonomy

Sometimes the workplace can be a balancing act: some people need external validation and support, while others have a more internal locus of control and are quite happy getting on with projects by themselves. This is not a weakness either way,  it is merely part of being human. Once you recognize and accept where you are on this sliding scale then you can start to do something about it.

Every single person in the world is wonderfully unique and individual. It is precisely this uniqueness that makes our lives complicated. We filter the world through the lens of our upbringing and this can make life difficult when it comes to judgement;  comparing ourselves to how we think we should be and to other people.  My approach is kind and non-judgemental, paving the way to allow you to find the solutions that are inside of you.
